Disney Photos

We came back from Disney with over 3000 photos. I've been sifting through, deleting repetitive shots and those that weren't well composed, blurry, or otherwise "less than." I've managed to trim the collection down to about 2700 so far. I imagine (hope) that I can trim out some more.

Thanks to using Adobe's Lightroom, the process of culling and organizing the photos has been easier than one might think. Am I finished with the task? Nope. I treat it as a fluid process. If I didn't it would become this huge and overwhelming task. What exactly do I mean by fluid process? I pull open the catalog of all stuff Disney. Sometimes I randomly choose or create a keyword, flip through the catalog and apply it to whatever photos fit it. Other times I pick a batch of photos from a certain activity or time period and delete the ones I know I won't miss or use for any purpose. Whatever task I feel like tackling is the one I work on for as long as I want.

What am I going to do with all of these photos? Create a photobook for starters! Here are some of the pages I've done with photos taken in Hollywood Studios:
Layout design inspired by Sketch-N-Scrap Sketch #102. Digital elements came mostly from KellyBell Designs' The Studios kit.

Psychedelic dude!

It's the 15th of the month so it's time for a new reveal from Sketch N Scrap. I love color, but I may have gone just a bit far with this layout:
The more I look at this layout, The more I like it. It just all  fits with the photos and the story behind them. To add to the fun I was able to truly play with my Distress Paints and water to color the chipboard swirl.
I used this sketch for inspiration:
This sketch is so versatile. I can't wait to see your interpretation.

Reveal, Reuse, and Recycle

So maybe these three R's are just a little bit different than what one usually sees. Let me explain.
Sketch N Scrap revealed sketch # 34 this morning. Here's a look:
So that explains the Reveal, but what about the Reuse and Recycle? Let me show you the layout inspired by SNS's sketch and then I'll tell the story:
See that white paper and the Dean & Deluca part of the title? That's actually the paper shopping bag from the purchases of the day. The handles from the bag where painted with some distress paint and added to the bottom of the page in place of the twine suggested in the sketch.

So who says you can't be earth conscious and scrapbook at the same time? Not me! I may use a lot of newly made paper, but I also recycle, reuse, and re-purpose a lot of stuff.

I look forward to seeing your creations inspired by this sketch. Don't forget to link up over at Sketch N Scrap.

Birthday Bash Challenge

Hi there all you creative people out there in scrapbook land. In honor of Sketch N Scrap's first birthday, I am bringing you a birthday palette challenge. Here's the inspiration photo and palette:
The inspiration photo comes from The Tomkat Studio.  Check them out for all sorts of party ideas.

The challenge--using the photo as inspiration and at least 4 of the colors in the palette, create a layout or card. You must use only the colors in the palette but may add gray for a neutral background.
If you link up your project in the comments of this post and become a follower of my blog by June 1st, you could be the winner of a mini texture kit.

I just loved this color combination. I broke out some distress stain and one of my new Heidi Swapp 12x12 masks to create this layout:
I can't wait to see what you all come up with for this challenge.

May Day Sketch Reveal

With a new month comes a new sketch at Sketch-N-Scrap. Sketch #32 has space for four photos all on one page! Take a look:

I used the sketch to produce a page about the sites at Sesame Place:

I loved the bright colors from this line of papers. They just had the right feel for my subject. I added in some bits and pieces including distress paint and fabric brads. The whole page screams summer to me.

And the Tooth Fairy arrives...

...with the reveal of Sketch N Scrap's sketch #31:

Are you wondering what the Tooth Fairy has to do with the sketch? Take a look...

I created my background using Dylusions' spray ink and some spray ink I made using Distress re-inker mixed with water. I broke out the cricut to cut the title and journal box. My stash yielded the Tooth Fairy (did you know that her name is Lydia?) stickers. They are older than my son LOL! I added some stamping in two of the corners to pull the eye further into the center of the layout and added some odds and ends of embellishments. I totally had fun with this. I always enjoy the process of creating a more artsy layout.

Sketch N Scrap reveals....

If you haven't checked out the Sketch N Scrap blog, you really need to head over there. The entire blog is getting a beautiful facelift!

April 1st brought the reveal of a new sketch:

This sketch combined with the thought of an April Fool's Day reveal inspired me to create this page of general silliness:

Don't forget that we will be adding card sketches in May. Come on over now and meet our

Leprechaun Mischief

Apparently the Leprechauns have gotten into blogger. The post I had ready for the March 15th reveal of Sketch N Scrap's Sketch #29 has disappeared! I don't know what mischievous magic has been afoot!
Without further ado, here's the sketch:

and my take on it:
I had fun using some pink. Pink is a color I rarely get to use. I thought the Everyday Eclectic collection was a perfect choice for these photos.

Sketch N Scrap #28

It's the first of the month so it's time for another reveal. Our March 1st sketch:
I played around a bit and made this page:

I got out the digital cutter and made some candy. I played with some mists and paper tearing. I was going for the look of candy just exploding out of the page.

I can't wait to see how this sketch inspires your creativity!

Sketch N Scrap #27

I hope you all enjoyed Sketch N Scrap's blog hop. It was a little different and a lot of fun! Now it's back to our regularly scheduled sketches.
Our February 15th sketch looks like this:
  And my take:
Most of the supplies that I used are from Echo Park's This & That Charming collection.

Sketch N Scrap Blog Hop

We decided to try something new this month and our team is sharing artwork today featuring a bonus sketch!

If you have come here from Kelly's blog, then you are on the right path.

Christopher loves to play with legos. He doesn't have the building of things down to a science yet, but has a ton of fun anyway. It seems as though his most favorite pieces of legos are the mini figures--a kid after my own heart!

Now hop on over to Tamika's Blog

I have an RAK for someone who can correctly identify one of the believed origins of the phrase "Wearing your heart on your sleeve." One correct answer in the comments will be chosen as the winner on February 15. Good Luck!

Sketch N Scrap #26

Time flies and here it is the first of February already. 2013 is already speeding by. Given that it's the first of the month, that means there's a new sketch reveal at Sketch N Scrap

Here's the sketch:
And my version:

I played with the layout a bit to fit the orientation of my photos. I cut the plus and equal signs out of cardstock and then put some glossy accents on top. To further add some dimension, I popped some elements up off the page with different levels of pop dots. The papers are a mix of Jillibean Soup and Lilybee.

Sketch N Scrap #25

Back for another reveal!
Here's the sketch:

Here's my version:
I had some fun with this one. I used a lot of metallic-like coppery colors to mimic pennies. The layout was a little flat looking to me so I spritzed with some tattered angels and then edged my inner block with a paint brush dipped in the glimmer mist.

Come visit us at Sketch N Scrap and show us your take on this sketch. You have until the 31st to link up for great prizes. Be sure to check us out in February for a lovely surprise!

Sketch N Scrap #24

With a new year comes a new sketch:
This one was a ton of fun. I dug into the depths of my stash and pulled several ancient pieces of paper. Here is my result:

As this new year kicked off, I've found myself working diligently on putting together my December album. I've been having great fun with it and look forward to sharing some of it here. Stay tuned!

Sketch N Scrap Reveal

Sketch N Scrap #23 has been revealed!
The sketch looks like this:

My mojo was on the fritz, but here's what I can up with:
I added some misting and scatters. It still didn't feel finished to me so I doodled a border around the page. The larger photo is one of my most favorite from Disneyland. I decided that even thought the background paper was meant for a Halloween page, that it was a good match for these photos.

You have until the end of December to link up your creation and have a chance to win a prize. I can't wait to see your interpretation of the sketch!

First Design Team Reveal

Today is the day! My first page as part of the Sketch N Scrap Design Team has been revealed.

The sketch:

My page:

I stuck pretty close to the sketch for this page. I did squeeze in an extra photo. I added some doodled lines and stitches in order to pull together a cohesive page. I also incorporated some scatters of black gems to pull the eye through the entire page.

Come join us a Sketch N Scrap. You have until the end of December to link up your interpretation of the sketch and be entered for a fabulous prize. I can't wait to see yours!
